Urbana, Mo. - Macks Creek took one on the chin Tuesday night, falling to the Skyline Tigers by the score of 19-2 in five innings.
Skyline scored once in the top of the first to create a 1-0 lead. They would never trail in the contest. Skyline put another two on the board in the second and then three more in the third for an 8-0 lead.
Macks Creek would score their only two in the fourth. Following a ground out and a strikeout, Cody Eidson drew a walk and stole second ahead of Matt Hicks being hit by a pitch. Jacob Devivo then walked to load the bases. Brian Devivo hit a 2-1 ball into the hole at short, allowing Eidson to score. Hicks would score when the ball scooted away from the first baseman and cut the deficit to 8-2. The Tigers would put the game out of reach with 11 runs in their top of the fifth and create the final margin.
Brian Devivo took the loss for the Pirates in his second start of the Spring. He worked the first four innings, allowing eight runs, three earned, on four hits while striking out five and walking five. Matt Hicks started the fifth and faced five batters. He allowed five runs on one hit while walking two and hitting two. Bricker Berry worked an inning, allowing six runs, four earned, on four hits while striking out two and walking one.
Austin Hufferd collected a single in three trips to the plate and Brian Devivo had an RBI-single for the only Pirates' hits. Tommie Willis, Lane Parrack, Cody Eidson, and Jacob Devivo each walked to reach base while Bricker Berry walked once and was hit-by-a-pitch. Eidson scored the lone Macks Creek run.
"We are struggling at the moment in all facets of the game," said Coach Trusty, "we have got to find a way to get better and do the small things that make the big ones come around."
Macks Creek falls to 1-2 with the loss. The Pirates finish pool play on Thursday when they play the Climax Springs Cougars. Game time is set for 4:30.
