  • Camdenton, Mo. - On the weekend of February 22-24th, the Camdenton girls traveling 6th grade Wolf Pack basketball team competed in the USSSA State Championships Tournament in Kansas City Kans.
The tournament consisted of top teams from both Missouri and Kansas that qualified to enter by competing in previous tournaments. The Wolf Pack was invited by winning the annual Pink and White tournament in Springfield.
The competition was tough but the Wolf Pack won their first game in pool play and lost their 2nd by a score of 49-50 against the KC Blue Devils. Pool play placed the Wolf Pack as the fourth seed in the tournament bracket.
Their first match was against the Lawrence, Kans. Magic, which they were able to defeat them by a score of 36-32, with Darby Roam making some steals at the end of the game to help seal the win.
Their next game against the number one seeded KC Lightning. The Pack was able to put together a great game and defeat the Lightning 41-21, setting up the championship game as a rematch against the Blue Devils for the state title.
The Wolf Pack took an early 5-4 lead in the game and never looked back. The team controlled the outcome of the game and were able to beat the Blue Devils 38-32.
"It was an amazing effort, great basketball. The girls played their hearts out, kept it together and are state champs. I couldn't be happier for them," Coach Jason Dampier said. "Each and every player did their part and they were the best team at the end."
Two players were awarded with extra honors. Natalie Basham and Kerrigan"KG"Gamm both won pool play MVP honors. Kerrigan was also awarded with the overall tournament MVP. These selections were made by the other coaches and teams in the tournament.
What a way to end the season.
