Philana Vanskike, R.N., a nurse at Lake Regional Health System, recently was selected to receive the $1,000 Tozia Wilhelm Memorial Scholarship.
Tozia Wilhelm and her husband, Warren, who both worked in the medical field before retiring to the lake area in the 1980s, were supporters of Lake Regional. After Tozia’s death in 2012, her family established a memorial scholarship to be given to a Lake Regional employee who is continuing their medical education.
Vanskike, who joined Lake Regional in 2003, began her career as a patient care tech. She received an associate’s degree in nursing from Columbia College in 2011.
“I love being a nurse because I am able to help others when they need it most,” said Vanskike, who currently works in Lake Regional’s Stepdown Unit. “I plan to use the scholarship money toward receiving my bachelor’s degree in nursing.”
