  • It may not look like it outside, but today is the first day of spring - astronomical spring, that is.
March 20 is the spring equinox for the northern hemisphere which means that the earth's axis is even with the sun - not tilted away or toward the sun. An equinox is a day of equal periods of daylight and darkness across the globe. For the southern hemisphere, it is the first day of autumn.
While it may officially be spring time, there are reports that it is snowing in Camdenton and Osage Beach and a flake or two has been spotted in Laurie. And snow is in the forecast through the rest of the week and into the weekend.
But there is hope. In between the bouts of snow and dreary weather lately, there have been some signs of spring. There have been occasional warms days and daffodils and other bulbs are sprouting.
Monica Byers sent in a photo a sign of spring - a tulip just coming out of the ground on the hill near where she lives in the Sunrise Beach area. Monica also shared a photo of a squirrel - she's decided to call him George - hanging out in her backyard.
