  • On Monday night, the Osage Lady Indians hit the road, traveling to Laquey for their first game of the season.
With less than desirable field conditions, the Lady Indians played through the water and mud to walk away with a 9-0 shutout against the Hornets, the first victory of their 2013 season.
Before the season began, the question on everyone's mind was how Osage would replace Summer Dean, the leading scorer of the 2012 Lady Indians. Coach Brandon Randall and the Lady Indians found their answer in Cassidy Culver, who made the switch to playing offense this season.
Culver scored the first goal of the game, and finished with an additional two goals, leading the Indians to a win on her 16th birthday.
Josie Verslues also scored three goals and controlled the midfield for the Lady Indians. Daisy Ralston, Kristina Ruck, and Mandee Reahr also turned in a goal apiece on the night, with Ralston finishing with four assists and Alora Powell turning in one. Vanessa Webber was in goal for Osage, but she finished the game with no saves as Laquey was held to no shots on goal.
The Indians next play Dixon on the road on Thursday, March 21 before hosting the Camdenton Lakers on Friday, March 22.
The Osage Indians' golf team also hit the road on Monday, traveling to Lebanon for their first meet.
Practice for the team has been rough so far this season, but the team has grown accustom to the cold and the wind, so the blustery weather at Lebanon's course didn't do much to faze them.
Defeating the Yellowjackets would be tough to do on their own course, but the Indians gave them a run for their money, finishing just 25 strokes behind the home team in a 171-194 loss.
"Overall I am very pleased with how my guys played considering the spring we've had," Coach L.J. Weeks said. "With all of the weather delays we've had, I knew they would still be a little rusty. This team has a lot of potential so I am excited to get playing more and work out all of the little kinks. It is encouraging to see that we are already scoring in the range that we scored during all of last year. This tells me that we are on the right track."
The Indians travel to Redfield on Wednesday for a meet with Eugene before hosting their first meet on Thursday.
