  • Camdenton School District’s Osage Beach Elementary is now the owner of a new SMART Board interactive whiteboard, thanks to the Hy-Vee SMART Points program.
More than 200 schools throughout the Midwest received the innovative technology tools this year through Hy-Vee’s SMART Points promotion, which ran from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30. During the promotional period, shoppers who purchased Procter & Gamble products at Hy-Vee earned points that could be designated to the schools of their choice. The school achieved the highest average points score in its region to earn the $1,500 SMART Board.
In addition, Chase Telken, a second grader at the school, won a 16GB iPad2 tablet for being the student with the most points designated on his behalf.
Caleb Kecklow, manager GM of the Osage Beach Hy-Vee, and Julia Skiles, human resources manager, visited Osage Beach Elementary on March 11 to present the SMART Board and iPad. “When schools and businesses are able to work together to provide learning opportunities for students, everyone in the community wins,” Krecklow said. “We want to thank our great supplier partner, Procter & Gamble, and all our customers for making this donation possible.”
Hy-Vee’s SMART Points program launched in 2009. Now in its fourth year, SMART Points has awarded over $1 million in Smart Boards and iPads to hundreds of schools throughout Hy-Vee’s eight-state operating area.
“Schools throughout Hy-Vee’s territory have experienced budget cuts and lack funds needed for technology spending. The SMART Points competition is a way for Hy-Vee and our customers to help provide the much-needed technology to local schools,” said Erin Bailey, assistant vice president, communications for Hy-Vee, Inc. “SMART Boards are dynamic in the classroom and help teachers create an engaging learning environment for their students.”
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard functions as an oversized touch-sensitive computer display. Using a special pen, a finger or virtually any object, users can control computer applications, write notes, pull up charts and images, erase or rearrange objects on screen, search the Internet, play videos and save work. The board comes with special SMART Notebook software that enables users to create customized lessons, presentations and learning activities and save them for future use.
