The Lake Race 2013 moved a step closer to reality this week when the Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that a Regatta/Marine Permit had been approved.
That decision brings organizers one step closer to meeting all the requirements of holding the Lake of the Ozarks International Boat Race June 7-9 near Bagnell Dam. Race organizers also have received permission to close Bagnell Dam to traffic during the race so spectators can view the race.
An announcement of major sponsor involvement is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Formula Boats in Osage Beach.
The racecourse will run from about 1,200 feet from Bagnell Dam to near the 4-mile marker. Some of the top national and international boat racers are expected to participate.
Named Honorary Chairman of the race is Dave Scott, also a local and international racing icon. Weather permitting, Scott is expected to have his racing boat “Mystic” at the Formula event Saturday.
Beavers at the Dam is hosting the event.
