A week after the Department of Agriculture released a report on Eldon's Animal Shelter, city administrators have made the decision to remove the shelter from the Police Department's responsibilities.
"As a result of the report, we felt the animal center was under the wrong department and needed to be moved to administration," Mayor Ronald Bly said. "The report didn't find any wrong doing or disciplinary problem. We just felt like it needed more supervision with paperwork, which could be kept at City Hall."
The city has notified current employees of the job opening and is looking to hire one individual to manage the shelter soon. If current employees are not interested, the job opening will be released to the general public.
The remodel inside the shelter is complete. The city is waiting on a final inspection by the Department of Agriculture before they can move forward with the facility.
Mayor Bly expects the inspection to occur at the beginning of next week. Once the shelter is approved, the city plans on hosting an open house.
Lake Sun will release updates as more information on this story becomes available.
