George D. Schweigert, age 84, of Laurie, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. He was born July 2, 1928, in Rush City, Minnesota, a son of the late George and Mildred (Shimel) Schweigert.
On August 28, 1966, in Monmouth, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Dorethy Long, who survives the home.
George was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.
He owned and operated the Rainbow Roller Rink in Monmouth, Illinois for 32 years until his retirement to the Lake of the Ozarks.
George was a life member of the American Legion Post and the VFW Post both in Monmouth, Illinois, the RSA and the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie. He was also of the Lutheran faith.
In addition to his wife, Dorethy, he is survived by his sons, J.D. Schweigert and wife Erlinda of Central, Texas and Eric Schweigert and wife Sherri of Abilene, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Megan Schweigert both of Abilene, Texas, Mark Almen and Darlene Harmon both of Alaska and Jamielyn Schweigert of Killeen, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Shane, Anthony, Jackie, Mark and Jaden; his brother, Floyd Schweigert of Cushing, Oklahoma; his sister, Ruby Hokanson of Harris, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Schweigert and a sister, Betty Barthel.
Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, in the Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery with Chaplain Erich Kurz officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice, National Parkinson Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association or the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
