Since 1993, The Butcher Shop has been a staple in the lake area.
Located on Illinois St. near the Camdenton square, The Butcher Shop is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Owned by Chris and Sherry Stevens, the staff has more than 50 years of combined butchering experience.
The Stevens purchased The Butcher Shop in 2009 in 2009 from Gordy and Jo Ann Glenn.
Chris has worked in the meat cutting business since high school when he worked at Paul's Supermarket. After 10 years with Paul's, he moved on to another grocery store before coming to work for the Glenns at The Butcher Shop.
The Stevens' philosophy is simple: if they wouldn't serve it to their family, they won't serve it to their customers.
"We take pride in having our customers come back again and again for the best value in quality food the lake area has to offer," Chris said.
Their reputation keeps them busy. Sherry said they enjoy supporting various community activities and the military, smoking meats for soldiers.
"It is an honor when we receive lettes from the soldiers or family members of soldiers thanking us," Sherry said. "A couple of years ago, not only did we receive a letter but also a picture and a flag that was flown in Afghanistan. The flag is on display at the shop."
