Whenever I turn on the television and settle in for some mindless program watching, I very often stumble onto shows such as "Doomsday Preppers."
I always come away from watching those programs feeling so sorry for all those mostly right winged, conservative folks who are so frightened that they devote their live's to actually being frightened.
They are frightened by their own government, they are frightened by Muslims, by Mexicans, by germs, by the sun, by electricity, by nearly everything you could ever imagine and then some!
It would be humorous if it weren't so pathetic and sad. I have always said that the Republican, conservative, right wing has always maintained fear as its best weapon in rousing support from the conservative base of American voters.
Unfortunately, I now believe the right is beginning to visibly crack under the strain of years and years of being told by their party, "Be afraid, be very afraid!"
There are a growing number of Americans that are living in bomb shelters, living underground, fortifying their homes, stockpiling years of food and water, stockpiling assault weapons and ammunition in anticipation of a Jihad Muslim terrorist attack here where I live at the lake of the Ozarks in mid-Missouri.....!
When did so many Americans lose their faith in their country?
How is it that so many of the citizens of the most powerful nation on earth have become such scaredy cats they have actually begun burying under ground like frightened rats.
When did "Chickenism" become so commonplace in America it now warrants its own television show.
Why are so many people willingly accepting fear as the driving force of their very existence?
Wait for it......... I say it is the direct result of the fear mongering tactics used by political parties and their candidates on the right.
Yes, it won elections for George W. Bush but what was the price paid by all those folks taught to be afraid of nearly everything in the process?
There is absolutely no justification for terrifying Americans simply to gain votes at the election polls.
You know the 9/11 terrorists intended to interrupt America's thriving economy and strike fear in the hearts of every American.
Every time I watch "Doomsday Preppers," I think about just how successful those seven men really were.
I say that President Roosevelt was correct when he told Americans, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself."
I hope this shameful movement ceases and we can stop this blot on the true spirit of American courage. I want people to start enjoying today and stop fearing tomorrow.
Page 2 of 2 - I would hope that all Americans would pull together in the American spirit of patriotism during any misfortune facing this great nation.
I personally want no part in arming myself against my neighbor ever under any circumstance.
I will leave you readers with this sentiment I instill in all my karate students, "I would rather live only ten minutes more being unafraid than a lifetime of being afraid."
