The Missouri Highway Patrol has officially ruled the death of an inmate in the Miller County jail as a suicide.

22-year-old James Jensen of Eldon was found hanging in his cell around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night.

He was transferred to University Hospital in Columbia where he was pronounced dead. Miller County Sheriff Bill Abbott called the Highway Patrol in to investigate the death.

After a few days of investigating, Highway Patrol personnel announced the suicide ruling on Thursday.

According to Miller County court records, it appears that James Jensen was being held on a Miller County warrant on a probation violation. The original charges were burglary and stealing. It is unknown if there are other holds on Jensen from other jurisdictions.
