A lake-area woman has been named as a Retail Representative to the Missouri Propane Education and Research Council (MOPERC).
Laura Simmons of Eldon, with GASCO Energy Supply, Inc., joins two others named to that position. She also serves on the Missouri Propane Gas Association Board of Directors as the District 4 Senior Director. Simmons is a third generation propane supplier for the lake area.
MOPERC also installed directors and officers for 2013 during its winter meeting in Branson.
Officers elected were: Chair – Tom May, MFA Oil, Columbia; Vice-chair – Larry Hodson, Jr., Big River Oil, Hannibal; Treasurer – Randy Warner, Ferrellgas, Liberty.
Since its inception, MOPERC has helped thousands of Missouri homeowners replace water heaters, furnaces and other appliances with new, more energy efficient models. The Council has also begun a Lawn Equipment Assistance Fund (LEAF), which has helped dozens of Missouri lawn contractors and landscape companies acquire propane-powered lawn mowers, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving on operational costs. MOPERC also recently approved a $1,000 vehicle conversion rebate.
MOPERC offers rebates to propane users, either new construction or replacement appliance in the amount of $250 for either furnace or water heaters or both. There is no limit to number of units that can be submitted per customers so for agricultural or commercial accounts this can be significant. But it also helps recover the costs for homeowners. Also, in the fiscal cliff deal, propane users were granted an extension on a tax credit known as the " Energy Efficient Existing Homes Tax Credit" that allows for $150 tax credit for qualifies propane furnaces and $300 tax credit for qualified propane water heaters.
