  • The old saying is that the third time is the charm, and for the Versailles Tigers, it proved to be true for Friday night’s Courtwarming match up against the visiting California Pintos. In their two previous meetings this season, the Pintos walked away with a 53-37 victory and a consolation win after a 61-49 match in the California Tournament. But on Friday night, the Tigers rallied to take an early lead, holding on to the end to finish the night with a 49-45 win as a large home team crowd cheered the Tigers on to victory. The Tigers opened up the game with a beautiful three from Borden Edgar, who would manage to complete four of his six three point shots during the game. The team quickly rallied, and after going on an offensive tear in the first quarter, the Tigers led 17-10 at the end of the first. They would continue to outscore their opponent in the second half, adding 10 points to the board to take a 27-19 lead as they entered the half. In the third quarter, California would attempt to take the lead, outscoring their opponent 14-12, before closing the gap in the fourth quarter after Jaden Barr tied it up at 39 with a drive down the middle lane. The Pintos would then take their first lead of the game with a score of 41-39 with just over four minutes left in the game. Ryan Surface would then lay in a quick two, tying the game up at 41, before Christian Anderson would retake the lead for Versailles with a drive to the basket for two. Edgar then knocked down a three with 1:30 left in the game to give the Tigers a 46-41 lead before Anderson would add on a quick two, followed by a free throw by Evan Lewis, giving the Tigers their first win of the season against the Pintos. Edgar would lead the team with 15 points and four steals, followed by 11 from Christian Anderson. Trey Woods finished the night with seven points, seven assists and eight deflected shots, while both Anderson and Ryan Surface rebounded seven on the night.
