  • Water service has been shut off in southern Laurie after a contractor laying natural gas lines drilled through the six-inch water main on Route O at the intersection with Hibdon Rd., according to Laurie Public Works Director Ed Young.
The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon.
Public Works employees were starting to dig up the line for repairs around 4 p.m. They are working to get the system back on line as soon as possible. The water will likely be off for users south of Route O for several hours, Young said.
Once water is back on, he recommended users boil water before consumption until test results can show that it is safe. It could take a few days to get tests to the lab and get results back.
The city just had a water main break at this location last week. A 90-degree elbow fitting in the line at Hibdon Rd. and Route O failed Sunday, Dec. 30.
The new break is located about 100 yards from last week's fitting failure, according to Young.
A temporary boil advisory was issued at that time as well. It took about four days to get test results back in this incident.
