The city of Osage Beach and the Osage Beach Police Department are hosting a Retirement Party for AJ, the OBPD’s K-9 officer for more than six years. The party will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Osage Beach City Hall in advance of the regularly scheduled Board of Aldermen meeting.
AJ officially retired Nov. 30 after serving the city as a narcotics and tracking dog. The Labrador and Dutch Shepherd mix was handled four years by by Corp. Adam Benjamin and the last two years by Senior Officer Sam Ford. Axel, a 3-year-old German Shepherd, is the new K-9 officer with expanded duties as narcotics, tracking, suspect apprehension, handler protection and search and rescue.
In his retirement, AJ didn’t stray too far from Osage Beach family. He was formally adopted by Budd Hyde, the city’s Airport Manager. The board of aldermen recently approved paperwork transfering ownership of AJ to Hyde and his family.
The public is invited to the retirement party.
