President Barack Obama won reelection on Nov. 6, but at the local level, all candidates won by healthy margins after a few contentious races in lake area counties.
In a packed field for Camden County sheriff, incumbent Dwight Franklin won the primary in August, setting up a showdown with former sheriff of 16 years John Page. On election day, Franklin defeated Page and retained his seat. For one of the two Camden County Associate Commissioners seats, voters ousted longtime associate commissioner Thom Gumm, electing to move noted local conservative club member Cliff Luber into the general election.
Anonymous letters questioning Luber's character circulated around the area, but had little effect, as Luber defeated write-in candidate Eddie Emery in the general election. There were no surprises in Miller or Morgan Counties, as all the winners there won by a considerable margin.
