Sarah Helen Myers, a resident of John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit for the last 15 years, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012.
She was born in Morrill, Kansas, on July 21, 1914, to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller. Following the untimely death of her father at the age of four, the family moved to Abilene, Kansas.
Helen married Willis R. “Bill” Myers in 1931. Bill and Helen had two children, B. Marlene Myers Coe and Dr. Dennis T. Myers. The family lived in Abilene, Kansas, Topeka, Kansas, Manhattan, Kansas, Mission, Kansas and Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Bill and Helen retired to Sunrise Beach, Missouri in 1977.
She was a member of the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 Auxiliary all in Laurie.
Helen enjoyed crappie fishing, cooking from scratch and was a wonderful seamstress. She always dressed fashionably and was extremely organized. She enjoyed meeting new people and was known at John Knox Village as “Miss Helen”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1992, “Go Cats”, her daughter, Marlene in 1979, and her sisters, Ione Baxley and Lorraine Pritchard. Helen is survived by her son, Dr. Dennis T. Myers and wife Kim of Parkville, Missouri and Sunrise Beach, Missouri; her grandchildren, Chris Myers of Leawood, Kansas, Whitney Kenter of St. Louis, Missouri, Denise Myers of San Jose, California, Rob Coe of Leawood, Kansas and Caren Coe Sparks and husband Buster of Overland Park, Kansas; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, in the Ozark Chapel Cemetery in Laurie. Memorial contributions are suggested to the KSU Foundation in memory of Helen Myers, 2323 Anderson Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas, 66502-2911.
