Camdenton Police Department has identified the persons responsible for the Bomb Threat to the Camdenton High School on Tuesday, November 27th. Investigation identified a 16 year old male juvenile who attends school at the Camdenton High School and a second juvenile who lives out of state as being responsible for the bomb call. Charges are currently pending against the local juvenile and authorities are working with law enforcement for charges on the second subject. The investigation confirmed there was no explosive device. While these teens might have felt this was a prank, they are facing very serious charges. Making Terrorist Threats and Making False Bomb Threats are considered felonies in both Missouri and the state where the second juvenile subject resides. Punishment for these crimes will be determined by the Juvenile Courts that has jurisdiction. The Camdenton Police Department is very appreciative of the many law enforcement and emergency service agencies that responded to assist. We are fortunate to live and work in a community where we enjoy a high level of safety but strive to be prepared for potential incidents and hope we never have to use the plan. Camdenton Schools formed a “Safety Committee” several years ago which includes school officials, school resource officers and other law enforcement and emergency service agencies. They meet regularly to work on procedures for emergencies and improving safety on campus. The committee has met and reviewed the incident. We always take each situation a learning experience, acknowledging what went well but also identifying ways we can improve our response. Everyone present had a strong commitment to keeping our school campus as safe as possible for everyone involved.
