Thomas K. “Tom” Miller, age 80, of Laurie, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012, at his home. He was born July 6, 1932, in Danville, Illinois, a son of the late Thomas H. and Henrietta Wineggar Miller.
On September 25, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Judy Silcott, who survives the home.
He received his Associate of Arts degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. He also played basketball for both Hannibal LaGrange College and Midwestern State University.
Tom retired from Equitable Life Assurance Company in Des Moines, Iowa as the Senior Insurance Underwriter.
Upon moving to Laurie, he became a member of the Indian Rock Golf Course where he also worked for several years.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his son, Steven T. Miller and wife Darcia of Hannibal, Missouri; his daughters, Susan T. Miller and companion Manny Martinez of Houston, Texas and Karen Miller Wright and husband Bruce of McKinney, Texas; his step-son, James R. Silcott and wife Becky of Liberty, Missouri; his step-daughters, Janet M. Evans and Toni Lynn Silcott and companion Ed Cole both of Des Moines, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Entombment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus.
