Served the U.S. in WWII

John William Janes, Jr., age 91, of Laurie, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Laurie Care Center.  He was born June 14, 1921, in Kansas City, Kansas, a son of the late John Sr. and Juliana Tomac Janes.

 On November 15, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Nadine Carver, who survives the home.

 John retired with over 30 years of service from Colgate-Palmolive.
 He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II.

 John was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach and was a volunteer firefighter for the Gravois Mills Fire Department.

 In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, boating and woodworking.

 In addition to his wife of 65 years, Nadine, he is survived by his granddaughter, Rhonda Neff Shook of Gravois Mills; two great-grandchildren, Julia Rose Culp and husband Drew of Vermont and Katherine Nadine Penton of Pasadena, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, JoAnn Neff.

 A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel with Father Patrick Dolan officiating.  Graveside services and inurnment with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus.  Expressions of sympathy may be left online at  Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
