Served in the Navy during WWII

LaVern Harold Bergstrom, age 88, of Laurie, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Laurie Care Center in Laurie, Missouri.

LaVern was born May 22, 1924 in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Carl and Ruth Singleton Bergstrom.
LaVern joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was sole survivor from a submarine attack.  LaVern owned and operated Dena’s and Red Apple Restaurants, and worked as a construction project manager before he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, horseshoe pitching and bowling. He was a member of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Camdenton.

 LaVern is survived by one son, Kenneth and his wife, Marcia, of Florida; one daughter, Kathleen M. Bergstrom of Shorewood, Illinois; his grandchildren, Matthew and David Bergstrom and Danelle Barnard,  one great grandchild Asha Barnard, step children Mark Maxwell and his wife Margaret and Miriam McGee and her husband Scott  as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gladys, his wife Wilma and his companion Dorothy Jones Bergstrom.

No Funeral Services will be held at this time.
