Weather permitting, work to replace the historic Saline Creek Bridge on Route 17 in Miller County will begin on Monday, June 4.  The bridge is located about three miles north of the intersection of Route 17 and Route 52.

“This aging structure will be replaced with a newer design and will be six feet wider, which will make the bridge safer and easier to cross,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Project Manager Bruce Green.
Don Schneiders Excavating Company of Jefferson City was awarded the contract after submitting the lowest bid of $1,142,531.41.

During construction of the new bridge, Route 17 will be closed for approximately two months.  In addition, the Route 17 bridge over Dog Creek, south of Tuscumbia, was closed for replacement on May 21.  That bridge will be closed until mid-July.  Motorists are advised to find an alternate route around the construction areas.
