A longtime resident of the Dogwood Animal Shelter has finally found a new home, thanks to a family in Texas who heard of her plight. The birthday girls were Hailey, a large black dog who has spent most of her 8 years at the shelter, and Ronnie Jacobsen, the shelter manager.

While Hailey did not particularly care for the fancy collar she wore for her birthday, the toys, treats and the attention more than made up for it.

Hailey has been a much-loved resident of Dogwood since she was brought in when she was about 2-months-old. She made the move with the Dogwood staff from their old location in Camdenton to their new home closer to Osage Beach. Over the years, Hailey had become a favorite among the staff. She was the longest term resident of the shelter until she made the trip to her new home in Texas.

Although missed by the staff at the shelter, Hailey is apparently settling in and gradually becoming used to being a family pet.

"She's such a good girl - very gentle and well behaved. We know the right person would find her here and give her a great home - and gain a most loyal friend for themselves," Jacobsen said.

According to Hailey's new family, she is still a bit standoffish with them, but making progress at becoming a family dog rather than a kennel dog.
