Remembered as social and outgoing

Julia Elizabeth Connet, (nee Middleton) passed peacefully on May 21 at 11:10 a.m. She was born in 1928 in Bowling Green, Missouri, the daughter of Jacob Hoard and Mary Jane (Whiteside) Middleton. After graduating from William Woods University in 1948, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked in the art department at Hallmark Cards and attended classes at the Kansas City Art Institute. It was in Kansas City that she met and fell in love with Melville Dwight Connet Jr. whom she would marry in 1950. While in Kansas City she sold real estate for many years. Social, outgoing and generous, Julie was involved in many civic and social organizations, including being an elder at the John Knox Kirk Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, a regent in the Niangua Chapter of the D.A.R., Camdenton, MO and a later member of the Black Mountain Foothills Chapter of the D.A.R. in Scottsdale, AZ. A personal highlight was the highly successful Cystic Fibrosis fundraising gala in 1977, which she directed and organized.  A lifelong artist, working in many different media, she focused on making quilts in her later years, donating much of her work to the Children’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Administration. Her vibrant sense of color and style brought joy to many. Family, home and friends were foremost in Julie’s life and she expressed this with her love of cooking, entertaining and gardening. Her warmth and sense of humor made any occasion memorable.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Mel Connet, of Primghar, IA; and children, Mel Connet III and his wife, Margaret of Atherton CA; Sally Connet of McAllen, TX; Frank Connet of Chicago, IL; Cindy Richter and her husband, David of Paullina, IA and her brother, Dr. John Middleton of Louisiana, MO, she leaves as well many beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
