In a head-to-head matchup on Monday between the Rolla and Camdenton High School tennis teams, the Bulldogs returned home with the rivalry victory 7-2. But don’t let the final score mislead you — it was anything but a walk in the park for the Bulldogs.

In doubles, the Bulldogs played hard and won 2-1. The lone Laker doubles winners were senior Ben Stone and junior Connor Burton over Bulldog senior Nicholas Pfeifer and sophomore Parker Nesbitt.

The Bulldogs had good play from their varsity squad in singles, winning 5-1 overall, but the Lakers definitely made the Bulldogs fight for the win by forcing three singles matches into extra games. One match in particular that stood out was between Camdenton junior Aric Osborn and Rolla junior Michael Janke.

At the beginning of the match, Osborn had a good start leading 3-0, but Janke made getting the win difficult after taking four games in a row to get the lead back at 4-3.

Both Osborn and Janke fought for the lead in the ensuing games, but neither would back down. So a bonus game was needed to declare the winner and Osborn rose to the occasion winning, 9-7.

CHS coach Kirk Richey was proud of Osborn's win, saying: “For Aric to be a first-year tennis player, playing at the level he is, it’s outstanding. Tonight’s just typical. He’s a battler, he just won’t go away.”
