Camden and Miller County Emergency Management Directors announce a Faith-Based Organization Disaster Initiative (FABODI) workshop for all faith communities in the county.

Camden and Miller County Emergency Management Directors announce a Faith-Based Organization Disaster Initiative (FABODI) workshop for all faith communities in the county.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 8, at Christ the King Lutheran Church. This initiative will encourage faith communities to prepare their members for a disaster.

The FABODI involves bringing disaster relief training to faith communities with the emphasis on individual and family preparedness, encouraging construction of a continuity of operations plan (COOP) and to ask that each faith community take on an external ministry such as; sheltering, feeding or bulk distribution. Many faith groups provided critical relief to the survivors and volunteers during the response to the Joplin tornado however; this training will make for a more effective response.

This workshop will include individual and family preparedness training where DHSS Ready In 3 program will be introduced and hands-on training will be provided. How to build a continuity of operations plan for the faith community will be explained. Finally, since it is critical to the faith community and the community at large, mass care operations and other disaster relief functions will be explained.

Camden and Miller Counties will be some of the first counties in state to receive this intensive training for its faith communities and representatives from all faith communities are encouraged to attend.
