Girls' district basketball: Macks Creek advances to semifinals, seasons end for Versailles and Climax Springs.


Local district basketball results from Monday, Feb. 27.

Versailles

Dixon 72, Lady Tigers 42
The VHS girls' basketball team couldn't slow down a red-hot Dixon team and lost in the opening round of the Class 3, District 10 tournament. Dixon led 21-7 after the first quarter and 44-18 at halftime.

Versailles shot 17-for-57 from the field. The Lady Tigers finished with nearly as many rebounds (40) as total points.

Jessica Webb led Versailles with 11 points in her final career game.

The Lady Tigers end their season 9-16 overall. They finished 5-21 two years ago and 3-20 last season.

Dixon (21-3) advances to play California in the semifinals on Wednesday night at Versailles High School.

Macks Creek

Lady Pirates 52, Wheatland 38
A 17-8 first quarter gave the Lady Pirates all the room they needed to beat Wheatland in the opening round of the Class 1, District 6 tournament at Bolivar High School.

Junior Ali Carnahan made three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Juli Hix had 10 points and six rebounds while Miriah Collins and Krissa Willis scored 8 apiece.

Neither team shot that well. Macks Creek finished 16-for-42 from the field to Wheatland's 14-for-52 mark.

The Lady Pirates were 17-for-25 at the free throw line. Wheatland finished with 22 turnovers.

Macks Creek moves on to the semifinals against Fair Play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Climax Springs

Halfway 42, Lady Cougars 35
By the time Climax Springs' offense got going in the fourth quarter, it was too late. The Lady Cougars lost to Halfway in the opening round of the Class 1, District 6 tournament.

Climax Springs trailed 17-11 at halftime and 27-18 after three quarters. The Lady Cougars put up 17 points in the fourth quarter but couldn't finish the comeback.

Climax Springs ends its season 8-17 overall. The Lady Cougars lost six games by six or fewer points.
