I bought a hand mirror at a thrift store for 25 cents.  It was pretty sad looking.

I liked its Art Deco styling.  I also liked that it is larger than most hand mirrors-- almost 8 inches across.

I wanted to paint it silver, so I sanded it all down.

I discovered that I didn't need to paint it.  After sanding, it had a brushed nickel look to it that I liked.  I discovered that the back of the mirror was metal as well.  I thought that it was covered in thin cardboard, but I guess it was just lime deposits or mold on the surface that made it kind of "fuzzy."  I know, gross.

I covered the back with some scrapbooking paper, and gave it four coats of Mod Podge.
I also turned the handle around so the securing screw is on the mirror side.  I think it looks better that way.  Not bad for 71 cents.  (The paper was 46 cents.)

I have another 25 cent item from the same store.

This candle holder is made of metal, and is heavy.  Any ideas on how to paint this one?
