The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold two community briefings to provide the public with information about the construction of a new Route 5 Hurricane Deck Bridge in Camden County.

The new bridge will be located on the east side of the existing structure, which is located south of Sunrise Beach.??

The briefings will be held on Monday, March 5, at the following locations:??

•Camdenton-Area Chamber of Commerce Meeting Room?739 West U.S. Highway 54,?noon until 1 p.m.??

•Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District Building?16593 North State Highway 5, 4:30 until 6 p.m.?

In January, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a construction contract to build the new bridge. The work will not include the sliding truss concept presented during a public hearing last summer.

American Bridge Company of Overland Park, Kan., was awarded the construction contract after they submitted the low bid of $32,303,295.46 to build an entirely new structure. The new bridge will be wider to include two 12-foot driving lanes with seven-foot shoulders on each side. Construction will begin this spring and the new bridge will be completed in late 2013. The entire project, including demolition of the existing structure, will be completed in spring 2014. ??

The existing bridge will remain open to traffic during construction of the new structure. However, some occasional lane closures on Route 5 and across the existing bridge should be expected. ??
