A day after a three-year-old boy was killed in Morgan County, charges of second degree murder have been filed against the child's mother and her boyfriend.
Initially believed to be a hit-and-run, the death of Blake Litton of Stover early on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 16 was ruled a homicide later in the day.
Authorities announced yesterday afternoon that they were charging Thomas Joseph "T.J." Presley, 21, with the second degree murder of Blake Litton.
The charges against Presley were officially filed at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 17, according to a new press release from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.
Charges of second degree murder and two first degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child were then filed at 2:15 p.m. this afternoon against Jamie Ann (Miller) Litton, 25, the child's mother.
Both Presley and Litton are being held at the Morgan County Adult Detention Center on a cash only bond of $100,000.
The charges come as a result of a joint investigation by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Division of Family Services, Stover Police Department and the Juvenile Office.
On Feb. 16, the Missouri State Highway Patrol initially released information that Blake Litton was walking in the ditch along Route 135 near Button Rd, north of Stover, when he was struck by a vehicle, which continued without stopping.
Police were looking for a white-colored vehicle, but called off the search as more details about the alleged hit-and-run emerged.
Investigators now believe Blake Litton was killed at his home and was transported to the road by Presley. It is unclear if Presley himself ran over the boy before calling authorities.
Blake Litton was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Bothwell Regional Hospital in Sedalia.
