There have been stories of Secret Santa paying off layaway accounts in Utah, Ohio and Florida. He was also spotted in Chicago, New York and handing out $100 bills St. Louis. This past week, he made his way to the Walmart Supercenter in Osage Beach.
The mystery man laid $250 down onto the counter, and asked employees working the layaway desk to spread the money around to help as many people as possible this Christmas season.
He then walked away without ever leaving his name.
Paula Duncan's daughter had $56 left on it for toys this Christmas. She had no idea where the money was going to come from to purchase it, so Duncan said she decided to sneak in to Walmart as a surprise for her daughter.
"I was stunned," Duncan said when the sales clerk told her the bill was $1. "I got chills. I couldn't believe somebody was so nice, so thoughtful."
When Duncan called her daughter and told her the news, her daughter immediately burst into tears.
"You hear of these things happening elsewhere, but you never think of them happening here or to you," Duncan said.
Duncan hopes the Secret Santa knows how much they appreciate his kindness. And, that they will repay him by paying it forward.
"I told my daughter that we need to keep it going," Duncan said. "It doesn't matter if she doesn't have a lot of money, we can do something else, something that doesn't require money. We'll think of something."
