Retired Osage Beach Police Chief David Severson passed away Thursday night after losing a battle with cancer.

Severson, an active member of the community, had retired from the Osage Beach Police Department this June, after joining the force as chief in 2004.

Prior to moving to Missouri, Severson served in the Anaheim (California) Police Department.

He had a master's degree from Newport University and graduated from the FBI National Academy.

Severson was involved in many lake-area organizations and charities, including Citizens Against Domestic Violence, Lake Area Law Enforcement Partnership and more. He led the law enforcement portions of some of the most successful Polar Plunges in Missouri.

Severson retired from the force in June after passing the baton to current Chief Todd Davis. He was honored at a reception earlier this month.
