The board of aldermen for the City of Laurie is holding a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, to address an employee grievance concerning a switch in policy regarding overtime.
For years, city employees were allowed to take compensation time, at time and a half, in place of overtime (time and a half) pay.
Last year, the board decided not to do that anymore and instead pay overtime. According to mayor Chuck Chorpening, the policy change came as a result of the city struggling to cover these absences, particularly in the police and public works departments.
The grievance is that there is an employee who would rather have comp. time instead of overtime pay.
