Former Eldon High School golfer Matt Miller took top individual honors and led his team to victory at the 2011 MIAA Men's Golf Tournament Championship last week at Tiffany Greens in Kansas City. Miller led the University of Central Missouri Mules to a team title and finished eight strokes ahead of the second-place individual finishers.


Former Eldon High School golfer Matt Miller took top individual honors and led his team to victory at the 2011 MIAA Men's Golf Tournament Championship last week at Tiffany Greens in Kansas City. Miller led the University of Central Missouri Mules to a team title and finished eight strokes ahead of the second-place individual finishers.

Miller, a senior, has been named the 2011 MIAA player of the year for leading UCM to the spring points championship. At the conference tournament, he shot rounds of 68, 74 and 71 to finish 3-under-par over 54 holes.

Miller is also the 2010 Missouri amateur champion. This spring, he won the Northern Kentucky Invitational and helped his team win two tournaments. The Mules worst finish in 2011 was 6th place at the North Alabama Classic.

The former Mustang and his UCM teammates will travel to Georgetown, Ky. May 2-4 for the NCAA Division II Midwest/South Central Super Regional tournament at Cherry Blossom Golf Club. The super regional serves as a qualifier for the NCAA D-II Championship, which will be held this season May 17-20 at Fighting Joes in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
