Oma and Noma Days is in May and the race is one of the more popular events.

By the time the race comes around, people will have plenty of time to saw, hammer and race their way to victory.

Prizes are awarded for distance, most unique, realistic and first, second and third place winners.

The coveted prize is first, of course. The trophy is a toilet lid with a plaque attached.

Other event highlights
Oma and Noma Days honors sisters Oma and Noma Degraffenried who were the first two people to drive over the Bagnell Dam when it opened on May 31, 1931.

Several thousand people are expected to attend the festivities throughout the weekend, which includes frog jumping, bubble-gum blowing, pie-eating and peanut-spitting.

Visitors will also enjoy live music – from bluegrass to swing to ragtime piano – 1930s period impersonators and an antique car show.

Ameren Missouri will also be opening up Bagnell Dam for tours again this year during the festival, Van Donsel said.

It's a rare opportunity, Van Donsel added.

The electric company offered tours several years ago for a limited time during the Dam's 75th anniversary, but stopped.

Tours will be given starting every half hour between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on May 14. The tour is free.
