It's a new year with a new executive director at Kids' Harbor Child Advocacy Center. Cara Gerdiman is also confronting several pressing issues with a new positive attitude.

Challenge 1

The Missouri Department of Public Safety reimburses Kids' Harbor for doctor examinations of sexual assault victims through the Crime Victim's Compensation program. At this point, funds in the statewide program have been depleted. For Kids' Harbor, this means a nearly $20,000 shortfall in its budget.

Challenge 2

Kids' Harbor in Osage Beach is currently undergoing plans for expansion. Plans include for the lower level to be completely finished to create additional space for counseling offices and a training room.

Legislators are working to pass a new bill to get additional funding to compensate Kids' Harbor and other child advocacy centers across the state, but nothing is guaranteed.

Gerdiman's take
Gerdiman is confident at least a portion of the funding will make its way through, if not all of it.
In the meantime, the Kids' Harbor Board of Directors and staff are working diligently to adjust the budget while working with benefactors to increase donations and contributions to make up the shortfall.

Challenge 2
Kids' Harbor in Osage Beach is currently undergoing plans for expansion. Plans include for the lower level to be completely finished to create additional space for counseling offices and a training room.
The office in St. Robert is also looking to expand and is looking for a new facility to meet the growing demands.
Both projects require additional funding.

Gerdiman's take
Recent community fundraising events, such as "Shine in the New Year" hosted by LaRoca Dance Studio and Country Club Hotel and Spa, have started the financing process for these projects.
There's also a team of volunteers being formed through the Church at Osage Hills to help with the Osage Beach project.
Any additional volunteers, donations, contributions or benefactors are sincerely welcomed.
