The Morgan County R-II school bus driver involved in a recent accident involving two students has been reinstated by the board of education after a review of the investigation at its Feb 22 meeting.
After completing its investigation recently, the Laurie Police Department found no grounds for criminal charges, but the driver had remained on paid leave until the school board had reviewed the incident. Placing the driver on paid leave following the accident was standard procedure, according to superintendent Jeff Carter.
The accident occurred the morning of Feb. 7 in the Laurie Terrace Mall parking lot.
According to the Laurie Police Department, a five-year-old girl was running to catch the bus, which had started to pull away, when she slipped on ice and fell under the rear tires. Her 14-year-old brother got caught under them as well when he tried to pull her out. The pair sustained broken legs, with the boy's injuries being the worse of the two.
Neither of the students normally rode that bus, according to the school.
