  • A former pastor facing statutory rape charges will go to court the day before Christmas Eve. Travis Ray Smith, 40, appeared in court on Monday morning in Versailles for a case review. He is charged with felony statutory rape for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl in 2005.

  • A former pastor facing statutory rape charges will go to court the day before Christmas Eve. Travis Ray Smith, 40, appeared in court on Monday morning in Versailles for a case review. He is charged with felony statutory rape for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl in 2005.
    Smith was the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Stover. Smith also faces a sexual molestation charge for an incident that occurred this summer during a church fishing trip on Ivy Bend. He was arrested on Sept. 27 and posted a $50,000 bond.
    According to court documents, Smith is a resident of California, Mo., and will be represented by Jefferson City attorney Jason Ludwig. Judge Peggy Richardson will preside over Smith's preliminary hearing in Morgan County on Dec. 23.
