The Camdenton Lady Lakers cruised to their first volleyball victory of the 2010 season with a  25-14, 25-13 win over Bolivar.

The opening game of the match appeared more one-sided thanks to a late scoring run. Bolivar trailed Camdenton 17-14 when Camdenton senior outside hitter Sierra Comer powered a crosscourt kill from left to right that sparked a nine-point scoring run. The Lady Lakers scored eight consecutive points on Comer's serve, including three consecutive kills by senior outside hitter Emily Dalton to close out the game.

In the second stanza, the Lady Lakers got solid defensive contributions from juniors Abbey Herfurth and Shae Hymes, both new faces in the varsity lineup.

"Our juniors were great tonight. They did not seem jittery or nervous or anything. I think they just stepped up and played just like they do in practice," Lady Lakers Head Coach Ann Gulshen said.

Senior middle hitter Haley Baker had five kills and Dalton recorded four kills in the second game. Senior Shelby Metzger set up her hitters well and Camdenton's defense continued to feed good passes to Metzger as the Lady Lakers rolled.

"I thought we passed really well, and our serve receive was good tonight, so I was real pleased with our defense," Gulshen said.

Camdenton visits Versailles on Tuesday night for the second match of the season and the season opener for the Lady Tigers.
