Police responded to a residence in Eldon Thursday evening after a man allegedly shot his neighbor and the neighbor's dog and then barricaded himself inside the house.


UPDATE (1:00 p.m.) A gunman continues his standoff with police almost twenty hours after a shooting just outside Eldon.
The unidentified man fired four rounds, one shot hit the woman's leg. The woman called police and reported the incident about 6:30 Thursday night.
The man and woman allegedly argued over a dog. The man shot the dog before turning the gun on the woman. She was taken to a hospital in Columbia for treatment.
There have been some reports that the man allegedly fired the gun at several other people but missed before shooting the woman.
Authorities could not be reached to confirm this.
A Highway Patrol SWAT team remains active at the scene, located off of VFW Road south of Eldon. Officers have blocked off the roadway surrounding the property.
They consider the man armed and dangerous.
Because it is an active situation, authorities have not not provided further details.

The neighbor was reportedly shot in the leg and was the one to alert authorities to the incident.
Along with Eldon police, Miller County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT team and the Missouri State Water Patrol all responded to the scene.
