While we are disappointed with the outcome of the latest healthcare vote, on behalf of Missouri’s small businesses I want to thank Rep. Skelton for standing up for small business and voting against the healthcare bill that threatens the ability of so many small business owners to operate and grow their businesses.
Not only does this healthcare bill spend $900 billion we don’t have, but it’s paid for on the backs of small business.
The facts are clear: this bill will raise, not lower, insurance costs and it will increase both taxes and the cost of doing business for the very people they said they wanted to help - small businesses. This is not the reform small business asked for or can afford.
We couldn’t have been clearer how damaging this bill will be to Missouri’s small businesses and the economic recovery of this country.
Instead, this bill dumps disproportionate costs and mandates on small businesses, and provides unfair exemptions for big business and labor unions. It will only result in more job losses and shuttered businesses here in Missouri during an unprecedented recession.
NFIB commends Rep. Skelton for doing the right thing and voting for small business.
He has been an independent voice who understands that small businesses are vital to our economic recovery.
We need more representatives in Washington like Rep. Skelton who are willing to take hard votes to protect the interest of small businesses.
Maybe then, our nation’s job creators wouldn’t have to worry so much about the agenda being pursued in Washington and get back to running their business and helping to get our economy on-track.
