(AP) — Prosecutors say a St. Charles County woman was passed out drunk while her 6-week-old son suffocated next to her in bed.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday that 41-year-old Alyssa Rae Potter of Lake St. Louis was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Potter's lawyer says that even if she was drunk, authorities have no evidence to prove she was responsible for the death of her son, Wyatt.
Potter called 911 on Nov. 19. She told officers she had three or four glasses of wine and had gone to sleep with Wyatt in her bed. She awoke after about an hour to find the child wasn't breathing.
Police say a blood sample taken at the hospital nearly four hours after the 911 call showed Potter had a blood alcohol content of 0.20. Missouri's legal limit for driving is 0.08.
