There were improvements and there were regressions, but one thing seems to be clear – there is still work to be done concerning the welfare of children in the lake area and Missouri as a whole.

There were improvements and there were regressions, but one thing seems to be clear – there is still work to be done concerning the welfare of children in the lake area and Missouri as a whole.

Kids Count in Missouri, a program designed to provide data on the state's youth, released its most recent data on Wednesday.

Of the 114 counties in Missouri, the lake area as a whole finished around the middle of the pack.

Among the most shocking numbers were those where lake counties ranked 100 or lower, meaning they were among the 15 or so worst in the state.

It included: violent deaths in Miller (105th), violent deaths in Morgan (110th) and child abuse and neglect in Miller (113th).
