Southern lake area should expect 2-5 inches, less to the north

Sleet and snow accumulations will occur over extreme southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks. A freezing rain / ice storm will remain over Oklahoma and Arkansas. Snow accumulations will be less up to the north across west central and central Missouri. For Joplin, Springfield and West Plains, the National Weather Service is forecasting storm total accumulations to range from 4-8 inches. This winter-like precipitation will begin this evening, and continue into Friday. Accumulations from a trace to 3 inches are expected in the lake area.
