The first transformations of the 116-suite hotel were announced on Wednesday in a news release issued by Leisure Hotels & Resorts and amongst the changes is a new name for the resort.

“Exciting plans are underway with a new general manager in place and a brand new experience for visitors to Camden on the Lake,” said President and CEO of Leisure Hotels Steve Olson. “The resort will be the place for leisure travelers and a key destination for the local community to enjoy all the great things about the Ozarks – with a family-friendly atmosphere, great casual dining and entertainment, myriad event space and boating opportunities, and good value for the money.”

The name, Camden on the Lake Resort, Spa & Yacht Club, has already taken dominance on the Horny Toad's website.

New Management
Leading the transformations is Michael Capps, the new general manager of the resort.
Capps has 30 years of experience in leadership roles with such worldwide brands as Hilton International, Radisson and Intercontinental.

“We are excited to invite guests and the community to sample this hometown treasure and enjoy life at the lake,” Capps said. “Our new marketing plan includes packages to entice any guest including boaters on the water, corporate groups, weddings and other events.”

More Changes
• Guest room renovations to accommodate more families and family-friendly activities with special dining menus, game room and water activities.
• Additional meeting space with an emphasis on weddings, corporate and special events.
• The new Earl’s restaurant for casual dining and cocktails in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, and H.Toad’s Bar & Grill for dining in a fun, friendly setting with specials for winter and a new gourmet spring menu on tap.
• A yacht club and marina with covered boat slips and myriad services such as boat waxing and cleaning, pump-out services, and jet ski, pontoon boat and wave runner rentals.
• A stronger presence on the Internet and social media with a new and expanded website featuring regular promotions and special rates.
• Good value for the money, both at the hotel and H.Toad’s entertainment complex.

The changes have been much anticipated by the public since the sale of the entertainment complex and hotel at a foreclosure auction earlier this month.

Toad Cove developer Merlyn Vandervort's largest creditor, Valley View Bank, of Overland Park, Kan., purchased both pieces of property for $25 million.

Vandervort turned the entities over to management company Leisure Hotels & Resorts in October 2009 citing economic hardship.

According to a written statement released by Vandervort, he said his operations suffered because of the recession. The situation was further complicated by the lending crisis.

Vandervort put the finishing details and opened The Resort & Yacht Club last year amidst the beginning of the recession and going into the off season. The recession went from bad to worse, and there still doesn’t appear to be any end in sight, the statement said.
