Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach hosted a blood drive for the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks Friday, Oct. 23. More than 50 units of blood were collected, according to church organizers. Volunteers from the church dressed in costumes for the event with a Wizard of Oz theme. Deanna DeJarnette portrayed Dorothy; Jan Kennedy, Auntie Em; Helen Garanjani, tin man; Jim Chapman, cowardly lion; Joyce MacHenry, scarecrow; Pastor Dave Beese, the wizard; Nancy Beese, the wicked witch; and Marsha Heals, the good witch. Most of the costumes were picked up at Community for Christ thrift store. Other volunteers wore special blood drive t-shirts. Some of the CBCO workers also dressed in costume.The next blood drive at Kent will be in February.
