Authorities say it is a complicated tale being woven in their investigation into a man being reported missing after seven years.
At the center of the investigation into Rodney Lee Wagner’s last known whereabouts is the report of foul play, according to Morgan County Sheriff’s Department Detective Greg Martin.
Wagner, who would be 52 now, was last known to be living with friends in the Versailles area.
He was not known to keep in steady contact with with family, Martin explained. The two relatives Wagner maintained some communication with were his brother and his mother.
Both told authorities they have not spoken to Wagner in at least seven years.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department started looking for him after a report alleged Wagner was the victim of foul play, Martin said. The reporting party does not live locally and took some time to track down. On top of that, the person had a lot of hearsay information.
“We’re erring on the side of caution, though,” Martin said. “Our immediate concern is his welfare.”
All the standard searches to find Wagner came up empty.
Martin said Wagner’s driver’s license has not been renewed under that particular name nor his finger prints run through a police database, indicating he hasn’t been arrested.
His last driver’s license under the name Rodney Lee Wagner expired in 2005.
To complicate the search, Wagner has several outstanding felony warrants.
“The thought is that he could be keeping low so he doesn’t get arrested,” Martin said. “But we need to be certain of that. Seven years is a long time to be missing.”
Martin said the department is seeking anyone with credible information that has seen him recently.
Wagner is described as a white male, around 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with any information on Wagner’s whereabouts is asked to call Martin at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office at 573-378-5481.
