A well-known lake area car dealership has announced they will be closing the doors at the end of the month.
The announcement from Clark Chrysler Dodge was made on Wednesday. The dealership will shut down on Aug. 31, according to a statement issued by Ellis Clark.
Clark has been in the new car business for 45 years. He took over the Chrysler Dodge dealership on State Route 5 in Camdenton several years ago.
Clark said he had hoped to find a buyer for the business so customers would not be without service for their Chrysler and Dodge vehicles.
That hasn’t happened but “hopefully will occur when the economy and Chrysler Motors recovers from the current downturn.
Clark said he had been fortunate throughout his years of selling new cars to have many good and loyal customers.
The closing means the loss of 12 jobs. Customers needing warranty work will be able to visit Chrysler Dodge dealerships in Lebanon, Urbana, California, Sedalia, St. Roberts and Jefferson City.
In May, a Springfield, Mo., media outlet reported the company might be one of the dealerships closing in the wake of the Chrysler Motor Company’s recent financial problems.
At that time, a spokesman for the dealership said there were tough times ahead but they planned to emerge from those tough times and had every intention of staying in business.
“I feel there are some tough times ahead but with support from the media and the community, we feel we could emerge from the tough times in a positive way,” Les Yardley, Clark Chrysler Dodge sales manager, said last May
