THE QUESTION: Should buyers of new boats be allowed to register their vessel with the U.S. Coast Guard for use in national emergencies and therefore avoid playing applicable local sales taxes?

This is a very interesting question, for it relates to roughly 80 percent of all residents who reside around the lake and dock their boats here.

This includes both full time permanent residents and weekenders.  After all this is a resort community with many of the amenities of a large city. But our emphasis is on water.
Boats are not necessarily a must-have mode of transportation.  Every business around the lake now can be reached by land.
Depending on where you’re going and where you’re coming from, it just takes longer.
Boating generally cuts down the distance necessary to traverse the places which are on the water.
As far as taxes go, we pay enough in taxes already.
We are already paying a premium of sales taxes on motor vehicles.  Why should we pay sales taxes on a boat?  This is a luxury item, working item, etc.
We who purchase boats are keeping countless hundreds of Americans employed, along with the boat manufacturers.  Not every citizen of this country owns a boat or boats.
The national average of boat ownership is less than 15 percent of the population.
Do you really believe that government, at any level, really needs our hard-earned dollars?
And for what purpose?
What do we receive for the governments’ thievery of our money?  And do not say roads.
We do not need the government at any level for roads. They could be privatized and turned into toll roads.
Believe me when I tell you if this were done, we would have fantastic roads everywhere.
Let us all remember that government cannot take care of us, and in no way has the ability to do so.
Let us be real, take a hard look at the efficiency of just our local and county governments.
What a joke!
Now magnify this to the state and national level. Need we say more and we want to entrust more money to them?
We are already supplying the local, county, and state bureaucratic microbes with enough of our hard earned money.
Remember, government at any level earns absolutely nothing and produces absolutely nothing!
Therefore, let new boat purchasers register their vessels with the Coast Guard for use in national emergencies.
It just makes good financial sense to let people who earn their money to keep it. After all, it is no one else’s money but our own. ?
